The only song off the original 3 EP not to make it onto Boy, and it’s fair to say that “Out of Control” and “Stories For Boys” both beat it. It’s symptomatic of 1970s(!) U2, in that they aren’t terribly dissimilar to the rest of the punk scene yet; whilst the band is relatively sharp, Bono’s well-documented unwillingness to sit down and probably write lyrics shows – when a boy meets a girl…boy-girl being a line (or variations/sections thereof) repeated seemingly ad infinitum at points. There also doesn’t seem to be any delay (or at least not heavily so), which makes the whole thing sound rawer but not more interesting. As such, “Boy/Girl” is perhaps more useful as historical document than listening experience.
