Freedom For My People

Unlike The Star Spangled Banner, “Freedom For My People” doesn’t seem to be an interlude with a great deal of point, even as it leads into the apartheid-themed “Silver and Gold”. Another brief yet not-strictly-played-by-U2 track on Rattle And Hum, it’s a demonstration of why the album garnered mixed reviews and why the band needed to go away and reinvent themselves for the 1990s – it’s the sort of flab that wouldn’t have been on Achtung Baby, and needn’t be here.
